Goal Cards / Student Agency

This year our space has worked hard to align Linc Ed with classroom routines.  We have taken the goals for each individual and put them on card for writing and maths, this has allowed students to take ownership of their learning by attending workshops based on their personal goal, self-reflection on work achieved and robust conversation for buddy marking.  This has re-shaped our programmes, lifted academic progress and daily conversations, student engagement and planning.

CYBER INFORMATION EVENING

Kia Ora Whanau

On Thursday 1st November we are hosting a Cyber Safety, Information and Law
evening.  
This evening has come about due to the increasing number of requests we as teachers are
receiving to support families with Cyber issues, including concerning social media posts, text
messaging, gaming and app usage.  We will also share the positives of technology for
learning and how we keep students safe at school.

Youth Aide Officer Andy McFarlane

• Stories and practical examples of how policing works around the topic
• Tips for parents

Michelle Cole

• Importance of parental modeling
• Positives of technology
• What we know about technology and the brain and behaviour
• The prevalence of social media issues in emotional distress and crisis presentations

For you to ponder…..

• Do you know about the new Cyber Laws?  
• Are you aware of the restrictions around social media?
• Are you aware of the issues facing our youth with technology usage?
• Has your child shared personal cyber bullying experiences?

We appreciate how busy you are at this time of year, but can not express how important this
information is. There will be a free crèche set up in Tiwai for children to be supervised, as
some content is not appropriate for them to be present. So see you there - Spot prizes on the
night!

- The community talking about the evening afterwards and at the fair following weekend

Professional Relationships

This year through my role I have worked with a range of agencies and created many professional relationships

- Rock On Hui's - meetings once a month with OT, Ministry, KHS, KBS, Youth Aide, Truancy

- Family Group Conference work - Parents/Whanau, OT

- Teacher Aides - Running the teacher aide programmes for Term 3

GROWING WAITAHA

This year Felicity, Dawn and myself have been working with Growing Waitaha on our own inquiry.



As the year has gone on, we have used what we are learning to discuss collaboration and supported teams across the school.

A lot of the workshops have been cultural based and guided us through our connections with our Maori Community.
