John Parsons - Professional Boundries

On Thursday I went to a workshop and listened to John Parsons about Professional Boundaries and was truely inspired.

Below is a POD CAST I listened to afterwards and I am keen to get his book.  Everything he had to say stuck with me and I want to inquire more.

Presenting cultural journey

We were invited to present our Cultural Journey at a workshop being held by Mātauraka Mahaanui after working with Di for a number of years. 


 

Kia ora Steph

It was great catching up with you yesterday.  Here are the things I said I would send to you; if you can take photos of signage, internal shots etc, then I can get them printed for you.  Here are those photos I already had, for your records.  These were from 2017.

As I mentioned, just lead a conversation with a small group – no presentation (powerpoint) needed; just the “good, bad and the ugly” – what you have done, how the staff/students have learned their cultural story through naming, (i.e. strategies, activities to learn) what you are working towards, what worked well, what you could do better or more of, side-outcomes from having done this (eg 2-year curriculum plan, graduate profile etc).

Just wherever the conversation goes.

Family Violence Workshop

Felic and I attended a Family Violence Workshop at Ashely school, hosted by Womens refugee and local police.

The stories were all local and brought to light how many cases are dealt with in North Canterbury.   We looked at signs to look out for in both students and parents.  We also were given helpful tips and where to go for help.  Hopefully, a second workshop will be held soon as it was very engaging.

Leadership Cluster Meeting

Dawn, Felic and myself went along to a leadership meeting at KBS hosted by Rebecca Sweeney  where we were part of a workshop looking at how to develop leadership skills, have those tough conversations and be part of the solution.

Katote Teacher Only Day

This workshop was fantastic.  Together with Felicity and Dawn, we are excited to dig a bit deeper into the model presented around Pipelines.  First steps to purchase the book discussed.



Interesting session.  Not what I thought it would be, however many statements that rung true and consolidated the relationships we try to establish with many of our students, both Māori and Non-Māori.


Biggest learning here, that self-harm is not always a concern for suicide.  Many resources to be emailed through so I can dig deeper in supporting some of the students already popping up at KNS.

Mihi Whakatau

This workshop was held at Tuahiwi Marae and helped answer questions around differences and Tikanga around Mihi, Pepeha, Mihimihi, Mihi Whakatau.

I made connections with other schools from within and outside our Kahui Ako.  Some of which are willing to be sounding boards as we work through this together.

Programme/Protocols to be developed for our school checked with Tuahiwi Education Committee and set for our school.

2019 Cultural Day at KNS

This year we held our first KNS Cultural Day, which I planned and co-ordinated with support from staff and whanau across the school.

The day was a huge success, with positive emails coming in from families offering appreciation and excitement about the day.

As the newspaper were unable to attended, I also wrote a piece and sent in photo's so they could celebrate our day in the wider community.

LIZ KANE LITERACY T.O.D January 2019

On Friday Liz Kane presented a workshop to staff at school as part of our professional development for 2019.  This was an introduction to the new spelling and reading approaches we will be taking at KNS to support our students progress.

In 2 weeks time Liz will be coming to work with us again, where we will break down the programmes a little more and share some data collected in class.
